The Kamffer family traces its South African roots to around 1685, when Lorenz Campher, a German soldier from Gdańsk in Pomerania, settled in Stellenbosch. On the land he named Murasie — now Muratie Wine Estate — the family’s legacy began, forged in soil and sustained by resilience. Over generations, the surname evolved through variants such as Campher, Kamfer, Kamffer, and Kampher — all branches of the same enduring lineage, shaped by time and place, yet bound by shared origin and spirit.
